The art of making technology disappear

The art of making technology disappear

Eyeglasses with built-in speakers are often heavy and clunky looking. The small format of USound’s MEMS speaker however, gave the eyewear brand Fauna an opportunity to design audio eyeglasses with a slim and lightweight profile. We started the project with extensive user research, talking to representatives of potential markets, as well as ‘extreme’ users like musicians and professional athletes. With these conversations came a deep understanding of potential future use cases, and also a clear challenge: showcasing the capability of the electronics, while integrating them into classic-looking frames.

It was decided to produce the frames from acetate, a material proven to be a high-quality and timeless option. Comfortable in fit and feel, as well as splash-proof, the eyeglasses’ technology is well-integrated. The user can manage the speakers through voice control and with touch-zones at the temples. Together Usound and Fauna created a high-tech wearable that shows what MEMS speakers can do.
