It's not the best electric car, it's the best car because it's electric.
It's not the best electric car, it's the best car because it's electric.
Today, Croatia is an innovation hub for electric vehicle innovation, due in large part to Mate Rimac and his company Rimac Automobili. That was not the case a few years ago when Marc joined a small team of engineers, and an even smaller team of designers, just outside of Zagreb. There, with investment from Porsche, they designed an entirely new kind of electric car concept. Entirely from scratch.
An Electric Car from Scratch
It is not often that you get the chance to design a vehicle from scratch, but the Rimac Nevera is unique because it allowed Marc and the Rimac team to highlight two significant features of the vehicle: the interface and the composite monocoque. A considerable amount of attention was placed on these features from project kick-off to launch, and the decision was made to make the technology visible and tangible. As a result, they both play major roles in the driving experience.

Cardboard to the rescue
In the intricate landscape of design investments, nailing the fundamentals is crucial, especially when dealing with a multitude of variables. Take ergonomics, for instance—a foundational milestone that, once surpassed, makes subsequent changes to a vehicle either nearly impossible or excessively costly. In the case of the Nevera, the solution was in unattractive yet invaluable mock-ups. Despite lacking aesthetic charm, these models proved instrumental for Marc and Rimac in efficiently configuring the driver's space amidst the myriad technical components of the vehicle, all the while preserving optimal driving dynamics.

Innovate or fail
Rimac, a newcomer to the car industry, transformed a perceived disadvantage into their greatest asset by forging their unique path in car manufacturing. In an industry often dictating the "right" way to engineer a vehicle, Rimac viewed this conventional wisdom as both costly and distracting. The Nevera, far more than a prototype, stands as a testament to Rimac's unconventional approach—an illustration of their distinctive method in designing, engineering, and constructing a car entirely from the ground up. Through this innovative development process, Rimac has successfully birthed a wholly different breed of electric vehicle.

Let's create fewer, but better.
